Quick Actions

Scan Now

Home > Scan

Select at least one trigger group, choose mode (Scan Image, Saved Image, or Clipboard Text), then run scan/detect.

Add Triggers

Home > Manage Groups

Create or open a group, add triggers, and set severity: Not set, Safe, Caution, Discomfort, Avoid, Critical.

Transfer To New Phone

Use Send to generate QR chunks for one selected group. On the new device, use Receive and scan all chunks.

Select JSON backup. Resolve duplicate groups with Skip or Merge, or use Skip All/Merge All.

Export Backup

Settings > Export Data

Use Save Backup File or Share Backup File. Export files are JSON and not encrypted.

Search Ingredient Safety

Trigger List or Scan Results > Search

Use Search to open your browser with an ingredient safety query (for example: ingredient + "food ingredient safety").

Start Here (3-Minute Setup)

  1. Open Home and review: Scan, Manage Groups, Settings.
  2. On first launch, open both Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Accept and Continue is enabled only after both links are opened.
  3. Create your first trigger group, then add triggers and set severity for each trigger.
  4. Go to Scan, select at least one group, and run your first scan or text detect.

If A Match Is Found, Do This In Order

  1. Check detected trigger count and Highest Severity Found.
  2. Read the full ingredient label line around each match.
  3. Use confidence labels exactly as shown in app:
    • Confirmed ingredient match
    • Likely match found
    • Likely match found: from [source] (this is how inferred matches are shown)
    • Needs review: uncertain match
  4. Tap a matched trigger to edit severity or notes if needed.
  5. Use Search from a matched trigger or the trigger list to open external ingredient safety context.
  6. If uncertain, choose a safer alternative and verify with manufacturer.
Important: Detection quality depends on text quality and source. Always verify against the full label before making safety decisions.

Common Tasks

Find a trigger quickly

  • In Scan, use Find Trigger to search across groups.
  • Use Filters for both Trigger Groups and Severities (multi-select).

Expected matches are missing

  • Check selected groups and severities first. Narrow severity filters can hide matches.
  • Use Find Trigger to confirm trigger spelling and location.
  • Expand severity selections and scan again.

Import finished but nothing changed

  • This usually means duplicate groups were skipped.
  • Import again and choose Merge for groups you want to update.

Transfer receive is incomplete

  • Check progress and missing chunk indicators.
  • Use Reset Scanner in Receive and scan all chunks again.

Troubleshooting

Scan Image Mode (Camera)

  • Select at least one trigger group before scanning.
  • Enable camera permission in device settings.
  • Use bright, even light and reduce glare.

Saved Image Mode

  • Enable photo library/file permission if prompted.
  • Pick an image where ingredient text is large and in focus.
  • If text is low quality, rescan from camera instead.

Clipboard Text Mode

  • Copy ingredient text first, then tap Detect Text.
  • If you see "Clipboard is empty," copy again and retry.
  • Paste source text that includes the ingredient list, not marketing text.

Transfer / Import / Export

  • Transfer Send currently generates QR for one selected group at a time.
  • Resolve duplicate groups during import before confirming.
  • If export/import fails, verify permissions and available device storage.

Search Action Does Not Open

  • Check that a default browser is available and not restricted by device policy.
  • Confirm internet access for external web searches.
  • If opening fails, the app shows a failure message that the search did not launch.

Can I edit severity or notes from scan results?

Yes. Tap a matched trigger in results to edit severity or personal notes.

How does ingredient Search work?

It is the app's inferred-style result label. It means a likely match was derived from related source text and should be manually verified.

How are duplicate groups handled during import?

Import preview lets you choose Skip or Merge per duplicate group, or use Skip All and Merge All.
